Subject: dual channel didnt work. whats wronOS: WIN xp SP2 profCPU/Ram: Athlon XP 64 Bit 3000 S93 |
Comment: Hi I have a K8n Neo4-f nForce4 motherboard and 2 DD400 512mb each module Kingston memory. The shop I bought the PC from set them up on both in the green slots (channel A) and I thought of giving dual channel a try. So I set them green and purple and the PC didnt start. the error I get with the beeps and leds on the back panel is "memory detection test. Testing onboard memory size. The D-led will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly" say the modules slots are 1-2-3-4 , being 1 and 3 green and 2 and 4 purple. I tried positions 1-2, and 3-4 but it didnt work. am I doing something wrong? I looked over in the internet and found a website that would justify as right what i just didnt. but why isnt it booting? thanks in advance.

Reply: (edit)The shop set the memory correctly; you did not. Read the manual which is there for you to read and not to sit around ;)

Reply: (edit)Yap, the shop did the right thing. But it is strange that it can not bootup properly in single channel mode. Maybe you did not insert the ram properly ?

Reply: (edit)I have the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe with the NForce4 SLI chipset. According to my manual you can run only one single module in single channel ram mode and only in one of the 4 ram slots. I guess it's the same with the MSI board which is the reason the other combinations just don't work!

Reply: (edit)You don't have to "look all over the internet"...all you had to do was read the manual or check the MSI website. It does appear the shop had the RAM installed in single channel mode...if they were both in the green slots, they were both on the same channel (channel A). For dual channel, one stick should be in A & the other in B, so the setup could be either 1-2 or 3-4. Make sure you read the section in blue with the heading MSI Reminds You... http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4-F&class=mb ASUS A7N8X-X Athlon XP 1800+ 8.5 x 200MHz 1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro SP1

Reply: (edit)That's why I like my motherboard it's easy to know what slots are dual channel mode and what aren't and all you have to do is just put it in the color slots on my board and bam I got dual channel.

Reply: (edit)oh mygod i forgot i posted here that question. anyways, Im dissapointed with the bunch of un-encouraging post saying that i should read the manual and documentate and that I screwed up. I tell you now, plese read the post and understand it instead of bashing me. geez... if you read right, I say that the shop said they put my memory in dual channel, so I checked the manual, and they werent since they were both in green so the shop lied, then I tried to set them on dual channel by going one green and one purple, and it didnt work. I found the reason it didnt work. the modules are single sided. thanks to anyone from jam on... the rest, i will just ignore.
