Hello, I download the AMD CPUInfo tool, and checked out my AMD Cual core 3800 CPU with it. Everything on the test displays "yes" however there is an option that reads "DIMM ECC ENABLE" and the option is "no" What exactly does that mean and is there a way to enable it? That could explain why sometimes I have random BSOD, even though memtest reads that my memory is fine. BTW I use 2 sticks of 512MB Kingston PC3200 DDR RAM. Thanks

ECC (Error Correction Code) RAM is generally used in servers...most non-servers type motherboards don't support it, therefore it would show that it's disabled. If you were to compare ECC stick of RAM to a standard stick, you'd find that there's 9 chips per side rather than 8. This 9th chip checks for errors & tries to correct them, but it also decreases performance slightly. The extra chip(s) is what makes ECC RAM more expensive.

Obviously if your board doesn't support ECC RAM, you shouldn't be running it.

As for your stability/BSOD issues, you didn't give enough info. Generally, the most common problems are bad RAM, weak power supply, overheating, improper BIOS settings, or driver conflicts.

Thanks Jam, well to the best of my knowledge I updated the BIOS, ran memtest which said the RAM was ok, the power supply is 600WATTs and brand new since I bought it to see if that could solve the BSOD, and everything gets no hotter then 36C.

Yes, but looking at the specs in your other post in hardware, I see you bought an Aspire PSU? Poor choice....

My other two computers have Aspire PSUs for over 3 years and have no problems.

I know that I'd never buy an Aspire...there are too many better choices available.
