Last night I was cleaning my computer and I unplugged all the cables. After I clean it, I plugged cables back, but first I forgotten to plugged CPU Fan cable and system did not boot. I shutdown it and plugged CPU Fan cable, but now I forgotten to plugged power cable atx12v1. That is 4pin cable. I think I plugged all cables in motherboard now. I turn it on and nothing happens. I think all works, but system wont boot. Please help....:(

You may have to reset your system by removing the CMOS jumper (check your motherboard manual if you're not sure where that is), or by removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes and then replacing it (shiny round battery about the size of a nickel ... can't miss it). Doubtful that you "killed" your P4 because they are designed to shut down before they overheat.

im seeing a patern emerging in these boards. so user "cleans" computer, computer stops working. hmmmmmm maybe dont clean computer and it will work always. i know your proud of it but stop cleaning them. realy they can run for 5 years full of dust but can be killed instantly with good intentions.

firstly cheack every thing is plugged in so memory fans hard disks cd rom graphics card cables from case to motherboard.

heres boot 101 so every one is singing form the same hym sheet. the first part when it says the info on the memory and the bios thats called the post screen then when it find your hard drive it then goes into the boot start up. then you get to the os start up which is the win logo. so at what point does it fail?

if it dosent show anything at all and no fans turn on and its dead then cheack the conectors for the case switch to the mobo. then try reseting the bios.

if its got fans working and everyings whiring and the hard drives clicking and the lights coming on cheak the graphics card and that you plugged the monitor or screen back in

if its showing the post screen but there is no hard drive activity. check that the hard drive is plugged in correctly that the cables round the right way if its ide(thats if youve taken them out) then cheack the bios to see if its recognising the disk if it is look at the boot order and put it first.

if however its accessing the disk and is getting to the win logo or just before and dieing youve some how damaged the disk either through it beng old and not liking getting moved or youve waloped it and the heads or platter have taken a thumping. this you can usually here from a funny noise being emited from drive. then it may be a new drive or try starting in safe mode and see if you can recover it.

or it could be that by cleaning it you have some how fried the memory or some chips using static electricity. either by using plasic equipment to clean or fluffy duster or by having you hands instide the comp while wearing a ring or watch. or not touching the case and realing the charge before you touch the inards.

Cleaning the inside of a PC case must be done periodically. Waiting 5 years would be to invite problems. The issue isn't the cleaning itself it is how it is performed. There is absolutely no reason to diassemble anything inside the case. Compressed air from canned air or compressor is all that is beeded. This needs to be done where the dust coming out won't be an issue. A workshop is good. If for some reason the fans won't come clean with just a blowing then use a small paint brush. Natural bristle is best.

I also believe in cleaning the inside of the PC to be a positive thing that allows the moving parts in side the tower to work with out being clogged up with dust .Some areas will produce much more dust then others so depending on the location of the PC how often you clean it is decided by the enviromment. The tower should be in a open area to allow the free flow of air and proper cooling ,at the same time this invites more dust to be sucked into the tower.First after opening up the tower ground yourself to a metal area on the tower so you do not short out anything ! I always use the compressd air always used the compressed air to blow out the fans both fron and rear (power supply)and the heat sink and fan on the proccessor. I also very carefully would use a vacum ,howevr you must be aware of the jumpers on the motherboard and insure you do not suck one off it! Dont wait till your PC is caked with dust to clean it ,that I believe can create a situation where you have to clean more aggressively thus the possiblity of creating somekind of problem. By cleaning on a schedule from the time its new you can keep it looking like new and running smoothly ! In your situation I would open the tower back up and simply check all the connnectors ,close it back up and also check all of your externial connections. The advice about the CMOS(sea-mos) coin battery is sound advice it may have became dislogged or not inserted completely with out you realizing this ?
Good Luck ,Nick
