When I got up this morning, my Dell XPS400, which was fine yesterday, is non-responsive. Since it was frozen, I manually shut it down and brought it back up - the welcome screen freezes - no keyboard or mouse action at all. Tried to shut down and restart then use F12, F8 to get in without windows loading- no dice. Tried another keyboard and mouse- nothing. Both keyboards/mice work fine in my laptop, btw. Got in once using F keys and then got this error:

Keyboard failure:
Drive 0 not found: Serial ATA, SATA 0
Strike the f1 to continue, f2 to setup utility

Obviously, I can't hit an F key if I have a keyboard failure...gotta love that error message advice...can anyone help me?

I'm not a computer genius, but I'm not a complete tool either- I think I can fix it myself with some direction. I want to avoid Dell or GeekSquad "help" if possible. Too many precious documents and pics on here to risk it - my fault they are not backed up. Lost my external drive in a move last year and have not replaced it- figures.

Could this be a malware issue or more likely a hardware issue? Maybe an XP issue? I just don't know where to start. Tried booting up from my Dell XP reinstall disk, but I think the boot order is such that it does not look to the CD first, so it just goes right back to the welcome screen and freezes there...

Thanks in advance!

This is not a CPU/overclocking issue. Post your question in the correct forum.
