Is there a specific reason why you feel the need to upgrade your CPU? What do you use your system for?

2.66GHz w/512MB of RAM is respectable. Do you have a decent video card or onboard graphics?

more than likely it is onboard, my mom has one of these, but w/ a slower cpu and ram. to answer your question you probibly could, but call dell and ask them FIRST!!!!! if they say you can, make sure you get the right bus speed, core and socket type.

but, before you do all this, run an anti virus, you can get scanned for free on a website. then, run adaware, this will clear your spyware. then try to run the game you wanted to play. if it is still slow, close some of the things running in the back ground, otherwise, pritty much everything next to your clock. if this doesn't speed it up any, and you really want to spend money upgrading the cpu, call dell and ask them about it.

If you have onboard video, a CPU upgrade isn't gonna help. You'd need a video card upgrade instead. Find out if you have an AGP slot...if so, someone can help you make a selection based on your budget. If you only have PCI slots, you're choices will be very limited

first of all let me congratulate you on your video card choice, only one problem...it won't work with your limited-upgrade dell 2400 motherboard. a pci-e (pci-express) video card is shaped somewhat like an agp slot, in which case your motherboard does not have either an agp OR a pci-e slot.
You are stuck with only being able to put in a simple pci video card. Because of the simple pci interphase, the transfer speed between the add-on video and your dell motherboard will not be that fast.
Might i suggest this card?
