My cyrix 6x86 p233 will not run at its right speed. I have a ASUS SP97 V motherboard and I have obtained the manual for it from the ASUS website. I have set the correct Voltage and FSB and BS jumpers to the correct settings and when I boot up Win 98SE After a while Explore crashes or I am playing games suddenly that Blue Screen Of Death appears and I am required to restart my PC and it allways happens. Right now I am running it at 200MHz when the CPU should be able to cope with 233MHz. Can anybody Help!

Matthew,
If that's a "PR233" the correct setting is 75 x 2.5 for a speed of 187.5mhz. I've overclocked several CYRIX CPU's on 100mhz bus boards but haven't been able to do it on 66 or 75mhz bus boards. The 200 mhz speed you're set at really shouldn't be a problem. If you have different memory laying around you could try changing out your ram to a higher quality.

Summary: you get the 6x multiplier from setting the actual multiplier at 2. just like the P233 MMX uses 1.5 as 3.5. running 3*66MHz gives 400MHz. btw, K6-IIIs are still available and also the most sought after...
