It's still being sold but you can only find it, if you know how to navigate Newegg.......lol

BTW, Newegg is not immune to the laws that govern demand and supply.

If it's for a desktop machine, make sure your board supports all the necessary overclocking options (FSB, multiplier, CPU voltage, etc) & you should have at least PC3200 RAM. All the XP-Ms overclock about the same...even the 2200+ ($78) will O/C to 2.2-2.5GHz with the right setup. Check the reviews:

Yes I have a A7N8X-X Mobo, DDR400 512MB Kingston ram and a Thermaltake Silent Boost K8. I'm also having problems installing it. It seems like it does'nt secure properly.

See the "K8" in the model number? That HSF is for the Athlon 64, not the Athlon XP

I have had the 2600 XP-M now for couple of years and I must say it is better that the 2500 XP-M. If paired up with the right board, you will not regret getting it as an overclocker.

My advice is to try ebay, you can grab both the CPU and motherboard for real cheap.

I posted the link to the XP-M 2200+...why pay more than $78? It overclocks just as well....

You really don't need to spend a lot for a HSF...here's a few to consider:

jam,

"even the 2200+ ($78) will O/C to 2.2-2.5GHz", I don't think he'll be able to achieve this feat reasonably.

Sabertooth,

The reviews at Newegg.com tell a different story....

Jam,

I'd seen the reviews and while it is good to have high expectations about the CPU's ability, it helps to know it may come at a price (an expensive/noisy HSF).

Am actually interested in seeing how this goes when he gets in the combo.

A Jam and Saber I was trying to the find the difference between the the Thermaltake Silent Boost and Thermaltake Silent Boost K8 right. So I found out that the physical difference between them are the hooks. The K8 version has a triangular looking hook (on the newegg pic) and the Thermaltake Silent Boost which is what I have has a box looking hook. Which makes mines the socket A version. Here is the links to the pics of what I'm talking about:

K8: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Showimage.asp?Mode=&Type=&Image=35-106-036-02.JPG%2C35-106-036-03.JPG%2C35-106-036-01.JPG&CurImage=35-106-036-02.JPG&Description=THERMALTAKE+Silent+Boost+K8+80mm+Ball+Cooling+Fan+-+Retail

Socket A: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.asp?image=35-106-037-03.JPG,35-106-037-02.JPG,35-106-037-01.JPG&CurImage=35-106-037-03.JPG&Description=THERMALTAKE%20Silent%20Boost%2080mm%20Ball%20Cooling%20Fan%20-%20Retail

So in conclusion I told you I had the K8 version which I don't.

But my question is does the cpu has something to do with installing of the hsf? I'm saying like I was just trying to install the hsf just see how to do it when the cpu comes.

"does the cpu has something to do with installing of the hsf?"

It does very remotely, since the CPU has a direct relationship with socket and of course the socket need to have a compatible HSF.

However installing your THERMALTAKE Silent Boost 80mm Ball Cooling Fan (socket A) ought to be a cakewalk, all you need a flatbed screwdriver to press the heatsink clamp onto the CPU socket retainer.

Goodluck !!!
