Subject: CPU/Motherboard Problems...Help!OS: Windows XPCPU/Ram: Intel Celeron 347Model/Manufacturer: MSI- MS-7387 |
Comment: Recently i purchased a Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
Fresh out of the box i installed it fine into my motherboard made by MSI http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?... When i booted up the computer it started without any beeps or anything... the only problem was i wasn't getting any signal. So i figured i would just update my BIOS (no big deal right). So i go to the site to see that my board dosn't supported by the chip even though it clearly states "Core 2 Duo Ready" on the site for the board. I figured i would update my bios anyway just to see if it would work, only to realize i couldn't exactly do it without a floppy drive to boot off. Can anyone help by telling me a) will this chip ever work with the board b)how else could i update my bios to possible get it to work. c)if the answer to A is no than should i invest in a new board or return the chip and get a different one. Thanks a lot to everyone in advance, any help is useful!

Reply: (edit)The mboard doesn't support your CPU & there's nothing you can do about it. It's a cheap piece of crap anyway - dump it & get a decent board that will support your CPU. Reply: (edit)i had that idea in mind jam, the only thing is will it really be worth it to install a whole new one, like won't it be kind of hard to do? Also what about it specifically isn't going to do me good in the future (besides cpu compatibility). And im not trying to defend the board, i know i got ripped of and im not happy about it...it came installed in my computer also thanks

Reply: (edit)Where do I begin? The board is based on a low performance VIA chipset, it doesn't support the latest 1333MHz FSB CPUs (which is what you have), it has crappy onboard graphics & only 2 memory slots. And it only supports up to DDR2-667 RAM. If you don't wanna dump the board, dump the CPU & buy one that's on the supported list. Why did you want to upgrade the CPU in the 1st place? I realize that the Celeron D isn't a great CPU, but what is this system primarily used for? "If my answers frighten you then you should cease asking scary questions" - Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Reply: (edit)"its just not up to par" How much RAM do you have? Are you using a real video card or the onboard video? If it's a card, what make/model? "do you have any suggestions for boards?" It depends on how much you're willing to spend. And if you swap boards, you're gonna have to reinstall Windows. Reply: (edit)Ok, currently i have (1) 2g PC5300 DDr2 ram made by the all great K-byte. My graphics card is currently ASUS EAH2600 Series http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ... i want to tell you more information about my RAM but i don't know exactly how to find it. im currently using everest and CPUID to get my info. What a negative of re-installing windows, besides the wait. Also i was looking at some boards on newegg and it seems like you can get something pretty nice for 100-200 or even less. thanks jam
