What seems to be the problem with your X2 5000+ w/2GB RAM? That should handle just about any game available, provided you have a decent video card. You don't have a video card on your parts list so I assume you already have one...what make/model is it?

And there is no such thing as a "plain jane" motherboard...if anything, that's what you have now in your Gateway. You may not be an overclocker but if you're gonna get a new board, you should get a decent one with a BIOS that can be manually configured for best performance. A board based on an nForce 500 series chipset is the best for an AMD system. Here's a breakdown of the nForce chipsets...pick the one that best suites your needs, then find a board that's based on that particular chipset:

just wondering, why are you going to rebuild your system when there is nothing wrong with it?

If you think going going from a 5000+ to a 6000+ is going to make a huge diff in terms of performance where it's woth spending 160+ on that cpu then you are grossly mistaken.

Try investing in a decent graphics card and a decent psu to go along with it and save yourself money, because that is all you need. Like jam said your ram is fine and your processor is fine.
