Hello,
I am running an AMD 2200+ on WIN XP. I noticed excellent reviews on CPUIDLE. It doesn't seem to cool down my cpu at all. Idle temp is around 60 deg C. Is there an adjustment to make to make CPUIDLE work? I am running the 6.0 Pro version which is supposed to work on WIN XP.
Any help would be appreciated. THanks!

I've heard before that cpuidle does not cool winxp systems. And yet there is a specific version (cpuidle pro) which is for xp, which is confusing. What's also confusing is that winxp systems do not have lower temps than win98 systems not using cpuidle, even though winxp is supposed to issue the hlt command itself.

I am having the same problem with Cpuidle pro 6.0b which is for XP. It does nothing to lower CPU temp. And it causes my monitor to wobble when it is activated. Any advice?

Thank god.....someone has the same problem I have with CPUidle Pro. I thought i was the only one.
I have posted twice in the past few weeks on this subject, but no answers. I have Win2k Pro (same version of CPUidle for WinXP), and it doesn't cool at all. Johnoh hit the nail on the head regarding temps being the same in Win98 without CPUidle, and temps in Win2k being the same as Win98 without CPUidle. Where's the HLT command???? Why in the world would CPUidle release a version for Win2k and XP, if Windows is supposed to already have the HLT instruction?? That's the main question i am trying to figure out.
FYI, my temps in Win98 38C idle (32C with cpuidle running)
Temps in Win2k 38C idle (38C when cpuidle is running).
What gives??

i don't know the answer, but on my system using cpuidle pro my temps dropped about 8 deg c. before, idle was 43 or 44, now it is 38 ish. the only setting i changed from default was optomize for athlon.

From the CPUIdle home page:
"With modern chipsets like VIA KX or SiS 7x5 an additional variable enters the equation. These chipsets need to be specifically programmed to allow the CPU entering the HLT state. Windows itself does not perform this programming (chipset optimization in CpuIdle), the BIOS must handle it- which many, even modern, BIOS implementations don't do."
You *must* select the option Optimize for CPU/Chipset if available to make the HLT instruction work. If the option it's not available the chipset isn't supported.
Here is the list of the supported chipsets:VIA KM400 (CpuIdle 6a)
VIA KT400 (CpuIdle 6)
VIA KT333
VIA KT266, KT266A
VIA KT133, KT133A
VIA KX, KX133AMD 760
AMD 760MPSiS 745
SiS 740 (CpuIdle 6a)
SiS 735nForce2 (CpuIdle 6.0b)
nForce (CpuIdle 6)
