OS: Windows XP
CPU/Ram: Celeron 1.3 / 512 MB RAM
Comment:

Hey. Currently in running a Celeron 1.3 MHZ. Of course that is pretty low right now and I want to upgrade my processor. Im my MOBO User Guide it says " Accomodates Celeron CPU's that support a FSB of 66 MHZ" ..... "Accomodates P3/Tualatin CPU's that support a FSB of 100 MHZ or 133 MHZ"

Now I looked up the Celeron 1.3 Processor and it says it has a FSB of 100MHZ..Ok.

I want to buy a Celeron 2.4 but it has a frontside bus of 400 MHZ. Will I be able to put this Processor into my Mobo and have it work fine ?

ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

You can't upgrade your Cely to those types of frequencies. The only way is to change your motherboard to socket 478 (1.3 Cely/PIII Tualatin/Coppermine uses Socket 370). I currently use PIII 1000 and I compared it to 1.3 Cely - and PIII runs FASTER on identical config. If you want to upgrade you have 3 options
1. Find 1.3 GHz PIII (these are awesome)
2. Change motherboard to socket 478 (and change RAM to DDR) - PIV/socket 478 Celeron
3. Change motherboard to Socket A (Athlon) and get again DDR ram.

Yeah, I don't think this is really a worthwhile project. A P3, while it will be faster, isn't worth the cost and time to find it in money, or in performance. Consider an Athlon 2000 Mobo, CPU, and fan will run you as little as $120, and that would destroy the replacement P3 by a landslide.

Still doesn't hurt to ask around for a P!!! - 1300. Performance-wise it would be slower than 2000 XP, but how by how much?
My estimate - 10-15%, and if it is possible to get P3-1300 for about $40-60 i'd say go for it!
