Hey. I am getting my CPU today with thermal paste and a copper shim on the side. Its an athlon xp 1700+. Do i need to apply anything to the shim? How much on the cpu?

I think its Arctic Silver II. Does it really make that much of a difference what thermal compound u use? I mean, id hate to fry my chip so i want something thats good.

really man, that crap is NO better than standard silicone thermal sompound that you can get a Radio Shack for ONE buck.

LOL! mike, you're scaring the poor guy!

There's nothing wrong with using your Arctic Silver 2...it's just that comparison tests have shown that it doesn't work any better than the cheap silicone based stuff that you can get for $1 at Radio Shack.

oh, sorry, wasn't saying NOT to use it IF you ahve already boght it, by all means, just don't buy it again as it is a waste of money.
