Subject: CPU will not turn on....

Comment: Please bear with me, I'm new at this troubleshooting stuff! CPU will not turn on when pressing power button. No light, no fan, obviously no power. Checked outlets, surge protector, etc. Before this occurred, for a few weeks we had trouble turning it on - it would only turn on if we turned off the surge protector for a while, or sometimes unplugged everything for a while (not just a few minutes), or kept switching it off and on several times. It's almost as though it had to "rest". Now...nothing, not even if turn off the surge protector for a long time. We are assuming the power supply has gone bad, but is there anything else we should be looking at? When we called the local place to inquire about price of power supply, they were not very willing to help. Of course, they wanted us to bring it in so they could look at it (and get our money). Should we assume power supply, or is there something we are missing? Thanks!

Reply: (edit)It’s probably your power supply or your switch. In many cases, the power supply is “intimately” connected to the switch.
