My CPU usage reaches 100% just minutes after I boot up, causing lagging problems with video and games. A few weeks ago, I did have a problem with what I assume was overheating, because my computer would shut down or freeze up after a few minutes. I totally disassembled it, cleaned the components, and put it back together, and it was fine for about two days, then when I tried to play videos the audio would move at a normal rate while the video lagged behind. I found another answer on this forum that said to disable a registry feature in avi files, due to the way windows handles incomplete files, and this worked temporarily. I run AdAware, Advanced Windows care and AVG every two or three days, and nothing turns up. I only have two startup programs running. When I look at the task manager, the CPU usage tabs on some programs fluctuate wildly, with firefox, and system taking up more than the others, firefox going up to 50% and system up to 95%. I don't know if it's a software problem, and if it's hardware, that would suck.
