After purchasing a 2.66ghz p4 cpu to put on my p4 D850GB intel mb, i discovered it will only support up to 2.0ghz cpu. What problems could I expect if I mount the new cpu? Thanks for any help

flash the BIOS to a new version that supports it! or if it cant :( support it then get a new mobo! if u dont got money throw it in anyway! i dont think anything will happen alot of my friends have thrown cpu's over thier mobos limit and have been ok but u take a risk of it being unstable if its unstable then just get a new mobo HOPE THIS HELPS!!! :]

also, some p4 default to a slower clock speed to ensure compatibility and smooth operation, select your cpu speed, press whatever you need for your mobo to get the menu/change, and see if the original speed is there, if yes, select and rebbot

Try it before flashing the BIOS, sometimes the manufacturers will only list the CPUs for which they have tested, if the chipset can recognize it, you may be alright as is.
