Reply: (edit)Personally, I don't think making that switch is cost effective...you're looking at over $300 for what really isn't that huge of an increase. Have you tried experimenting with the clock settings for your 2700? You don't necessarily have to O/C, but you should notice a decent performance boost if you were to lower the multiplier & raise the FSB, but still keep it reasonably close to the designed clock speed of 2.17ghz. I'm not sure what FSB options you have though...

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the advice but i am in a position to get an Athlon 3200 for nearly free, and i was wondering if my motherboard, an Abit AT7-Max2 was capable of handeling that cpu. The Abit website says a 2800 max, but that was made when the 2800 was just still a vision and not a reality and i dont think they updated it. So any other thoughts

Reply: (edit)In light of the cost of the 3200+ being nearly free, I'd go for it. At worst, you could use it later in another motherboard. Otherwise, I agree with jam...the OEM 3200+ is 409.99 at the local friendly PCClub.
