Subject: CPU upgrade not workingOS: Windows XPCPU/Ram: AMD 1900 |
Comment: I've had an AMD 1900 installed in my computer for quite a while. I decided to upgrade to an AMD 3000+ 333FSB. However, when I put it in, it will not post. There is no beep or anything. I cannot get to the bios, and the Mobo just plain doesnt do anything. Whenever I put back the original CPU, everything works fine. I've reset the Bios several times, and have even taken out the lithium battery. It just refuses to run. My motherboard is an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Rev. 1.04, and I flashed to the latest bios. Please help, I am stuck! The only possible cause I see is that the new CPU is supposed to operate at 1.65V and the old one is set for 1.75V. In the bios, the lowest I can set the VCORE to is 1.75V. However that is when the old CPU is in there, that may be why I cant lower it anymore. Help! Thanks in advance. -Brad

Reply: (edit)Are you sure the 3000+ CPU is any good? Your board should autodetect the voltage of the new CPU & adjust it accordingly, but even if you have the voltage manually set to 1.75v, it's not too much for the 3000+ to handle. It would appear that something else is wrong... Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @ 8.5 x 200MHz 768MB PC3200 Asus A9550 128MB/128-bit Gamer Edition WinME/WinXP Pro

Reply: (edit)I am not sure the CPU is any good. It is supposed to be brand new. The reason I can't get into the Bios is because as soon as you turn on the power, nothing happens. The lights on the keyboard don't even flash, no beeps, no anything. As soon as I put back the original CPU, everything is perfect. Do you think its just a bad CPU? (I heard that is rare) -Brad

Reply: (edit)Brad, Put the old processor back in and go into bios. Enable the reset configuration feature. Save and exit. Immediately hold down the power button until the machine turns off. Reinstall the new processor with heatsink/fan. Reboot and see what happens. If that don't work, someone else here will have to help you. I really think the processor is bad though. Good luck! YO
