Here's the deal:
A friend has an MSI KT3 Ultra, XP1700 running Win2k and some 7200RPM CPU fan.He threw in an XP2100 and started getting all kinds of wierd errors (ntoskernl, driver BSOD's etc..)
The errors went away at 100FSB, but at 133 it went all nutty again. A few times it failed to POST.
Over the course of three days he upgraded his PSU from 300 to 350, tried different thermal grease, tried different CPU fans...
Is there a BIOS update or other "something" he should do / try before taking the chip back?
He put his 1700 back in with zero problems after the 2100 just wasn't giving him any love.
Anythoughts / suggestions appreciated...
Thanks...
Mark

whats the vcore voltage?
cpu might not have enough power to run and it will give you problems. anything that is lower than 1.75v for athlon xp cpu 1700+ or higher <==bad
IF that's not the cae then..you probably need to tell your friend to upgrade his bios.
he can try to go to msi site to search for the bios upgrade.
his motherboard might not compatable with athlon xp 2100+

go here.
i dunno what kind the motherboard your friend have. ultra 2 , ultra 2-C???
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_list.php?kind=1&CHIP=4&NAME=Socket%20Alooks like they got the new bios.
