OS: Windos XP Pro - No SP yet
CPU/Ram: V D 805 - 2 GiG (2x1G) OC
Product: Intell Pentium
Comment:

Alrighty, I have a brand new PC that I just started building. I pushed the power button and loaded all the default bios. I then installed XP Pro, Video Card Drivers, and Motherboard Driver/Program. I restarted and now the ABIT screen pops up pink and asks me for set-up or f1 to continue. Then I continue and I get to a black screen with alot of information, the most important being CPU unworkable or changed. It asks me to see the CPU soft menu. From there I don't know what to do.

I have a:
Pentium Intel Pentium D 805 533MHz FSB LGA 775 Dual Core,EM64T
ABIT AW8 Motherboard (w/Guru)
Sapphire Radeon X1800XT
2x1G Sticks of DDR2 800 OCZ Ram

Anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it?

Thanks...

Reply:

Manually enter your CPU parameters or choose the "load setup defaults" option in the BIOS.

"I pushed the power button and loaded all the default bios"

BIOS settings should be manually configured to best match your hardware. Default settings are rarely the best performance settings.

From your manual:

Load Fail-Safe Defaults - This option loads the BIOS default values for the most stable, minimal-performance system operations.

Load Optimized Defaults - This option loads the BIOS default values that are factory settings for optimal-performance system operations.

- External Clock:
This item selects the external clock frequency. Due to the specification limit of the CPU you installed, the speed you set over its standard bus speed is supported, but not guaranteed.

Should be set at 133MHz unless you're overclocking.

- N/B Strap CPU As:
This item sets the external hardware reset strap assigned to MCH (Memory Controller Hub).
To set this option manually:
• Select [PSB533] for CPU of 133MHz FSB frequency.
• Select [PSB800] for CPU of 200MHz FSB frequency.
• Select [PSB1066] for CPU of 266MHz FSB frequency.

You should select either "By CPU" or PSB533

- DRAM Frequency<CPU:DRAM>
This item determines the DRAM frequency.

There are no settings shown for this in the manual, but in your case, "BY SPD" is not the correct setting. If different ratios are available, 1:1 would be what you're looking for.

I have tried most of that, except for what I cannot do, and it still displays the message.
