Subject: CPU Underclocked
OS: WINDOWS/XP SP2
CPU/Ram: AMD XP 1800+/256 PC2100
Comment:

I recently bought a used eMachine AMD 1800+. I ran
SANDRA utilities for benchmark checks and found two
anomalies. One shows the FSB as 2x134 MHz (268 MHz
data rate). Could be read error? The other shows the cpu
as (Thouroughbred) AMD1.5G+. My cpu clock speed
shows 800 MHz. What is this all about? How do I get my
clock speed where it should be? Can't do a thing in bios
for this problem. (Phoenix 6.00 PG). MOBO is (ECS). Thanx
for your time.

OH NO! NOT AGAIN!

Thanx. The eMachine model is #L7VMM. The MOBO is
#KM266-8233. Can't seem to find anything for it.

The FSB sounds normal. The boards real FSB should be 133MHz and it's counted double on DDR Ram systems because DDR Ram can read/write twice at every MHz. This gets you to the 266MHz given for the CPU!
So with 2x134MHz you systems runs with a slightly raised FSB which is still in normal range.
The Athlon XP 1800+ Thoroughbred runs with a real clock of 1533MHz which is 11,5x133MHz.

Check if your multiplier is set right. If not try to correct it manually and if that's not possible you may need to upgrade to a newer bios version!

L7VMM is an ECS Mobo model, you need to know the revision number, it is written on the actual mobo next to L7VMM and go here to download a manual:

SANDRA is not infallaible. Try CPUZ...download, unzip, & click CPUZ.exe:

OK. I tried CPUZ. Now it seems my processor is an AMD
Athlon XP-M. Doesn't that belong in a notebook? Thanx for
the tip.BTW. Can I post the results here?

OK. Looks like this processor is prime for overclocking.

OK. Here is the info on my current project. I updated my
BIOS wich gave me more options. I now have control over
the frontside bus. Still I only get about 933 MGz and I'm
probably taxing my drives. Any suggestions. I can't use
the clockspeed options with Crystal CPU all that does is
shut me down. Should I drop my bus to 100 MGz and try
it from there? Be Kind I'm not a total DA.
