Comment: Hi, I installed a few utilities that came with my Gygabyte motherboard, one of which is a hardware monitoring utility,NETBIOS. this checks the temprature for the cpu and power and gives me warnings. The CPU temp is usually around 49 C. I am just wondering, is this a normal temp for this Intel pentium4 processor or should I be worried about it. also for the power the fan speed is 0. does it mean there could only be one fan in the system box

Reply: (edit)there could be just ine fan...more likly one fan is just not sending the data corectly. I have a cpu fan that used to tell me the rpm..all in a sudden it stoped sending data but the fan works fine.

Reply: (edit)Check the temp in BIOS. Or try Motherboard Monitor. How is the air flow in your case? My case has a baffle between the display adapter and the CPU/HSF and both can draw fresh air from the side of case. It makes a 10C difference.

Reply: (edit)Not every PSU has a fan speed connector. Mobo's usually have a socket for it, but if you don't connect a fan connector to it, it'll just read 0. As your P4, it depends on the room temperature, and if you're idling or the cpu is under load. If 49C is your idle temperature, it's fine, although it's a little bit on the high side. If it's underload, then it's fine. Software monitoring software are not always accurate...the signal has to travel through the mobo, and that can affect it (best way to make measurements is to put a thermal probe on it inside).
