Subject: cpu temps highOS: xp proCPU/Ram: 350/192 |
Comment: I have noticed in the past couple days my cpu temps are ranging from 37-46* Is this bad? I am not that great with comps but i know a few things...this doesn't sound too good to me seeing as i am having a lot of problems lately with booting up. In the power management it says ERR for my CPU fan speed and Temps. What do i do?.... Should i overclock my CPU? how do i do this if i have to? ~Be beautiful from within

Reply: (edit)Overclocking will just make things worse. What motherboard do you have? Are you getting the temp from the BIOS? http://www.heatsink-guide.com/maxtemp.htm http://www.pantherproducts.co.uk/Articles/CPU/CPU%20Temperatures.shtml

Reply: (edit)You might wanna open the case, to make sure your CPU fan is spinning correctly and while there, clean out your heatsink and the fan. Sometimes things like accumulated gunk could be responsible for your fan's inefficiency and subsequent high temps. ____________________________ The greatest risk is not taking one

Reply: (edit)okay it was a silly question to ask but like i said..i don't know that much about comps...anyways i know where the heatsink is...i just don't know how i am to clean it...do i have to remove it or what do i have to do to clean it. Cleaning the fan was the easy part but i don't want to break the cpu. To modify the type of cpu i have: authentic AMD k6-2(350) ~Be beautiful from within

Reply: (edit)There is a metal retaining clamp that usually secures heatsinks to the socket via the opposite edges, you need to carefully remove the clamp to be able to remove the heatsink, or get a can of compressed air to blow the gunk out. ____________________________ The greatest risk is not taking one
