cpu temperature too high

Specs: Windows Vista, quad q6600/4gb
hey, i have core2 quad q6600 with mastercooler fan. i recently monitored my cpu temp to be about 57ish idle and 74-79 when playing WOW.. i applied some thermal compound, it doesnt seem to change much. my fan is working fine, blowing cool air, but cpu is just HOT.

Before applying the thermal paste, both the top of the CPU & bottom of the heatsink should have been thoroughly cleaned. Then a thin line of paste should have been applied using the "horizontal line" method. If you did it differently, you did it wrong. Here's the instructions:

yea u cant apply thermal paste without having the heatsink and cpu placed in ur mobo perfectly and cleaned from dust.
at least clean the all the fans in ur computer from the dust including cpu and video card than apply as instructted in the above link
