I currently installed a new shuttle MK35VN Motherboard and an Athlon XP 1900+ cpu from my old junky intel 1.2 celeron. One thing I notice from this CPU is that the temperature stays around 58-63c. The computer does not have any case fans, and I used the thermal pad that came with the stock AMD heatsink. If I added a front intake case fan, would that drop the temp down any degree. There is no opening for a case fan in the back, but I can put a slot fan back there also if recomended. The top of the computer is so hot, I am afraid I will overheat the power supply, so I need help with this as soon as possible.

Well, your junky Intel 1.2 Celeron after all ain't that junky on the heat department.

All newer processors either Intel or AMD are toasters emitting 50 to 80 watts of thermal warmth. Time for you to get a new case with both intake and exhaust 80 mm case fans. Besides, they are inexpensive (less than $30), and I am sure it will look a lot prettier. Your old PS may not meet AMD requirement anyway, hence more hot.

I am sure the stock cooler is capable to maintain the CPU temp in low 50 C if you don't overclock.

Thats what you get for dumping the celeron and getting the AMD. But your best bet would be to get a fan that can run at a higher rpm

Before you panic, make sure it's not just a temp reporting problem.
