i just bought an old ibm a31 and am in the process of upgrading it is it possible to up grade my p4m 2.0 ghz 400 mb fsb with a p4m 2.6 ghz 400 mhz ? as far as i know this is the fastest cpu my motherboard will accept or am i wrong?

Same bus speed, same amount of cache, and same CPU core. As long as the current CPU isn't soldered to the board, it should work. Just don't pay too much for that P4. :)

The highest CPU you can put in there is a 2.5GHz or 2.6GHz P4-M, The kicker is, the upgrade might run you anywhere from $50.00 to $100.00 easy, even on fleabay.

I don't think the extra 500MHz is worth that much, but you have to decide if it is for you.

yeah if i can get a 2.6 ghz for 50 bucks or under i probably will i spent too much on this thing already got a new ibm scorpion 120 gig drive a ultrabay dvd drive and a new battery already spent more than i paid for it but i love these old ibm laptops my wife has a new ideapad Y710 and i have had a couple of newer core duo machines that malfunctioned in one way or another they dont make them like this anymore and thats too bad
