Comment: i am running a TINY PC with a 1GHz AMD Athlon processor with VIA apollo chipset on a Microstar 6340 motherboard. I would like to upgrade to an AMD Athlon 2600 cpu. other than simply swapping the cpu itself what else would i need to do???

Reply: (edit)Hold on there! How do you know your board will run a 2600+? Never assume anything...always check the manual & manufacturer's website. If this is your board, it only accepts up to 1.2ghz Athlon or Duron at 100mhz (200FSB). It does NOT support the AthlonXP http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=MS-6340M

Reply: (edit)Hi, it depends on Your MB version, BIOS version and processor FSB frequency - as shown here for MS-6340 v.5, BIOS 6.3. http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=23&kind=1 As You see, it supports Athlon XP 2600+ but only the one with "old" core running on 266MHz, the new ones sold now are running on 333MHz, and those won't work (they are expecting the DIM Bus to run on 166MHz, but the board and RAM Support 133MHz max.), so I see very small possibility if BIOS upgrade. Greetings Martin
