Comment:
I recently had my CPU burn out, and found what seems to be a great deal on a replacment AMD http://www.compuvest.com/Descriptio...

Whats a good way just for future reference to check the compatibility of the chipset?
And where can I find the sticky stuff to reset the heatsink and fan unit?

Chipset is part of the motherboard, not directly rlated to CPU par-se..

CPU Socket - it will either be Socket 423 or 478. The type of socket is printed on the Plastic bed the CPU plugs into, you will have to remove the HS&F Assy

The model of CPU is printed on the CPU and a search of Intel Support will also give you info

As you have a GATEWAY go to their website and locate your model, and it should have a manual available which will give you the info.

AMD CPU's will not fit in your PC!!!

Last but not least all the above has been regurgitated before and the reason each forum has a search function, also Googling is good!
