I have built a computer that has a prescott cpu, 3.0Ghz. I also installed a CNPS7000-AlCu CPU Cooler with some Artic Silver5. It idles at 45c and up to 68c under load. I have a thermaltake case with seven fans. Should it be running this hot?

"Should it be running this hot?"

The Prescott is known as the "hot potato". Your temps are better than a lot I've seen...many go up into the 70s & 80s under load, so I'd say you're doing pretty good. You have nothing to worry about

I have a 3.0 Precott OC'd to 3.2 with stock HSF with 1 intake and 1 exhaust fan in an Antec Sonata case.

47 idle 64 under load.

7 fans is overkill, you are likely impeding airflow instead of improving it.

fans impeding airflow??? only if they are not turning. your prescott must be the 478 and not the 775 as those 775 chipsets are the worst chip I have ever had the displeasure to work on as far as temp is concerned. leave it to intel. over priced underacheivers and now too hot to handle. AMD all the way.

Too many fans can create turbulence inside the case vs.a simple smooth airflow of cool air in and exhaust out, therefore impeding the airflow.

BTW, I'm running a 775 Prescott.

If you set the fans to run in line with half exhaust and half intake the turbulence causes airflow and cooling as far as I have seen.
