CPU Replacement

I recently had to remove and replace my CPU. It was the exact same processor being replaced, an Intel Pentium 4, 2.66. With the new processor in, when I hit power, everything powers up and sounds good, but I don't get any picture on my monitor.
Why did you have to replace the CPU? What were the symptoms? Are they the same as with the new CPU? If so, maybe the CPU isn't the problem.

The same processor was removed and put back in. I guess I worded it wrong since it wasn't exactly a replacement. I removed it to clean the Heatsink cause it was a mess and was really loud. The processor worked perfectly before.
