Ummmmmmmmm, what are you doing that takes up 100% of the CPU usage??

Not only does this slow down your system termendously, it also does wear the CPU more. The more the CPU works the hotter it can get, thus in return, can cause the thermal grease to wear more rapidly and if your not careful and wear to nothing and cause overheating.

By utilizing the CPU at 100%, you are making the CPU work more, and create more heat. It's the same concept when you play games, the more you play, the hotter the vid card becomes, thus decreasing life expectensy.

i suppose what David says it true. But if I were you, i wouldn't worry about it unless your temps get high. Your looking at years before the CPU "wares out" by which time a replacement chip can probably be bought for next to nothing, or in a few years you'll be wanting to replace it anyhow.

The only reason I know to have 100% cpu usage is by running a cpu cooling software like VCool and so on.
Sounds strange but the cpu cooling software takes the free cpu space and stops the cpu if it's not needed. That shows in the way that the cpu cooling software seems to take up to 99% of cpu usage.

VCool, SETI, Folding@Home are just a few examples of 100% cpu usage. I don't know of anyone who has had a problem unless a cooling fan has failed.

What processor do you have at 880Mhz? An overclocked PIII?

i take it you are using Windows Task Manager to moniter your cpu usage (if you aint, then use it) if you are, make sure u look at the Performance tab and not the Processes tab.
Just a fought lol
