I'm running a P4 3.0 proc on an Asus P5GPL mb, I've had it for a almost three years now. I noticed it was lagging a bit and that there was quite a bit of dust buildup on the side fan. I opened the case up and used the compressed air to dust it. I took off the power supply and cleaned that, took off the proc fan and heat sink and cleaned that and the same for the video card. Now everytime I try to turn it on it says CPU over heating and may stay on for approx. 5 mins at most before shutting down. Can someone please help me I have no clue what I did to my comp.
Several possibilities, all related to the CPU heatsink/fan:
- you reused the old thermal compound when you reinstalled the HSF - you used no thermal compound when you reinstalled the HSF - you used too much thermal compound when you reinstalled the HSF - you didn't reinstall the HSF correctly
