Assembled my system myself. However, because of a stupid friend,I kept the cardboard as a base for M/B.because of this cpu temp went upto 90C.but,immediately removed the cardboard, and reseated theM/B.however,system now runs at minimum 55C.Any chances of any permanent damage?plz help me.

The P4 has built-in thermal protection circuitry & cannot be overheated to the point of failure. I'm surprised it would even get that hot...I don't think a P4 with no heatsink at all even gets that hot....lol! I highly doubt you did any damage to the CPU.
