CPU overheating shutdown

My computer has been shutting down several times before I realized it was overheating issue and changed CPU fan. Now it is OK, but it seems to me a little slower, do you think that the CPU has been affected permanently. and why the comuter shuts down due to CPU overheating anyway.

Go into the BIOS and look for a menu item such as PC Health.
