Comment:

Computer stopped working after six months.

It won't POST. I get NO BEEPS and NO VIDEO.

Already tried clearing CMOS by jumper and battery.

Also, tried removing everything but the CPU and still nothing.

I'm fairly certain it is either the CPU or Motherboard and I want to do a return , however I don't know which one is defective.

Is their a test I could do to find out which is defective?

I have a duplicate Motherboard and CPU to swap test with, but I am worried about damaging them as they are working perfectly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I would bin both your mobo and cpu and power supply. I had the same happen to me recently after a power surge and I spent so much time and money just changing individual parts. In total I bought 3 mobos, 3 Athlons and 2 power supplies. Problem was one kept blowing everything else. Also be aware that your hard drive could be damaged as well. Hope it all goes well.

I had a similar experience. I replaced 3 processors before I realized my mobo was frying them. Be careful.

Now might be a good time to fork over $30 and take it to a computer shop and let them diagnose the problem. DO NOT take it to CompUSA or anything like that.

Thanks for all the help.

I'm glad I didn't try to diagnose with my "working" components.

I guess my next step is to try and return both the CPU and Mobo.

I hope the PC store I bought it from is cool and will either return both or let me know which is defective.

I'll update this post after I find out.

Thanks again.
