Hi there, i'm in a bit over my head here, i'm building my own pc and everythjing seems to have gone fine except my CPU which is an AMD AthlonXP 3200+ processor with 400Mhz FSB and said to run around 2.4Ghz, is only running as 1.1Ghz, my mobo is a gigabyte 7vt600p-rz with the via kt600 chipset, and in bios it can only change from 100 - 132 Mhz buy enabling cpu host clock control. In my mobo manual is says i can cahnge it to 200 - 254Mhz by switch SW1 but i find no reference of sw1 on the mobo or in bios?? does anyone know how i can get my cpu running full speed or closer.? thnx for all ur help.

It's JP1 and is located between the top PCI slot and the battery. About Page 9 of your motherboard manual...recommend you read that little book from cover to cover.

Is JP1 in fact open? If so, look for "CPU host frequency in BIOS and set it to 200 (200Mhz~245Mhz)

Take a look at this page:

http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1597&page=3

Notice the Ctrl+F1 comment in the middle of the page to unhide Advanced Chipset Features menu.

If you look at the menu choice below the red highlighted choice, you should be able to either use up/down arrow, page up/down or enter keys to get the choices of 100, 133, 166 or 200Mhz. Failing that, I think it's time to give Gigabyte support a phone call.

Only one more suggestion. I understand the Ctrl+F1 thing only works outside the Advanced Chipset Features menu...won't work if you're in that menu.

I know, pretty stupid to me too. I don't have more suggestions except to flash the bios to F5 (seems to be the latest) and take it from there.

Personally, I'd still call Gigabyte first and find out if a bios upgrade is necessary or if there may be another problem.

Let us know what you come up with. I've only messed with one VT600 motherboard (don't remember which one) and had no problems with it after removing the jumper.

If you do flash the bios, follow all the instructions to the letter. This is one way to turn a motherboard into a doorstop. Read, reread and understand the process before you begin and you should have no problems with the flash.

Still, I think we've just missed something here...give Gigabyte a call first.

Best of luck but I'm out of anything that resembles an answer for this one. I would like to hear the solution.

Geez, you could at least get the model number correct. I believe it's 7VT600P-RZ?

It wouldn't hurt to update your BIOS, but it's not something for a novice to try. Do some reading & make 100% sure you understand the procedure before attempting it. It looks like your board supports @BIOS so you should be able to perform the flash from Windows, rather than the old DOS method.

I did a little searching & had a look at your manual to see what I could find. I ran across the same article that Skip posted a link to - you should be able to get some hints from there.

You obviously know that the JP1 jumper must be open to allow 266/333/400FSB settings.

At the top of page 21, it says, "If you require more advanced BIOS settings, please go to "Advanced BIOS" setting menu. To enter
Advanced BIOS setting menu, press "Ctrl+F1" key on the BIOS screen."

At the top of page 22 of the manual, it's restated again as a note: "If you can't find the setting you want, please press "Ctrl+F1" to search the advanced option hidden"

Be sure to disable Spread Spectrum Modulated, & enable CPU Host Clock Control.

Take a look @ this, there's definitely a way to unhide that Advanced Chipset Features menu via CTRL + F1, there's gotta be something you're not doing right.

Also be aware of the lack of the AGP/PCI lock, when overclocking that mobo.

what happens if you have a 3200+ barton and you have the fsb switch set to the wrong position? (i.e not set to auto) could this result in your cpu overheating?
