Ok , I have an Athlon XP 2000+. On my motherboard, i set the jumper to 133 for fsb. I only have a choice between 100 and 133. When I run my computer, it tells me that my cpu is clocked at 1.6 GHz (2000+).

My question is that why is it that if My CPU's FSB is 266, but is set to 133, that it is running at normal speeds? It should be 1.6 at 266 FSB but its only at 133. Whats up with that.

Sorry if I sound confusing, but I didn't get any sleep last night.

Thanks

hi! i am not an expert on the area but you say that 2000xp have 266 fsb but i guess that it is mhz,.. fsb is 1/2 of mhz or something.. f.eks. ddr 266 pc2100 is runniong on 266mhz and therefore at 133 mhz.. someone will probably correc me if i am wrong about somthing here but i know i have a good adea of it there..

hope it helps!

2000+ XP runs a stock speed of 1.67 Ghz. Athlon XP's are double-pumped processors, so 133X2=266 mhz effective. Your FSB is set to the correct 133 mhz. Have you ever wondered why P4's tend to have a huge FSB advantage over AMD?? Thats simple... P4's are quad-pumped processors. 400 mhz FSB is 100X4, 533 FSB is 133X4, and 800 FSB is 200X4. FYI, to get the processors frequency, you just multiply the multiplier by the FSB. A 2000+ has a multiplier of 12.5, so multiply that by 133 to get 1662.5 mhz. Everything is cool... don't worry.

So if I set my FSB to 266, then it would run at 1.67 X 2?

Did you read my post carefully???

Your 266 mhz FSB comes from 133 mhz multiplied by 2 (133 X 2 = 266).
Your FSB is set correctley, i.e. 133 mhz FSB is 266 mhz, because the processor is double-pumped. The 1.67 ghz comes from multiplying 133 X 12.5. The 133 is the internal frequency, and the 12.5 is the multiplier. The external frequency is 133 X 2, which in turn gives you the theoretical 266 mhz FSB.
I'm probably just confusing you even more here, so in short your computer is setup correctly.

i sent an e-mail to AMD, addressing this sort of issue...i said in my e-mail that they should include FSB and multiplier settings with each processor, becuase a lot of people have posted on why their XP 2000+ ( for example )is not running at 2 ghz...i admit, the very first time i had my hands on a new amd xp 2000+, i set the fsb to 266, that equaled a no boot...but the next time i was in bios, i set it to 133 and bingo

Yeah like they said, there's 2 kinds of FSB..the internal i.e. 266mhz which is located on the cpu, which is also double pumped like they said. and there is a external FSB which is located on the motherboard i.e. 133mhz.

Intel cpu's like the 800mhz FSB ones have a 200mhz external FSB with a quad pumped Internal FSB which comes up to 800mhz. AMD will be using a quad pumped FSB on their athlon 64 i think i heard.

Solution to all your problems:

SELL YOUR AMD FOR THE 5c DEPOSIT IT'S WORTH AND GO INTEL. Its simply common sense and a little IT know-how. I mean, would you buy a Ford over a Holden?? Exactly! So why do it in IT?

Well Maybe instead of trading the amd for a 5cent deposit I will save the cash from the p4 and buy and FX video card or a gig of 3500 ram and blow the p4 out of the water..
sorry for the spelling its damn late..

huh...y all the intel fan boys? they must have sold out to dell like intel did, oh well, AMD RULES, i would rather build my own processor than use an intel
