Hi all,

I have a Ferrari 3000 LMI, with an AMD 2500+ processor, which should run at 1,87 GHz. Currently, however, it is running at exactly half that speed (with and without (=idle) processes). My laptop is really slow and that should not be the case.

I downloaded and ran CPU-Z (as suggested in other topics), which gave the following info:

1. Most of the time, my CPU is running at +/- 930 MHz, with a multiplier of 7
2. Sometimes it flashes a speed of +/- 1860 (the appropriate speed) with a multiplier of 14

In both cases FSB (+/- 265 MHz, that is correct) and Bus speed (+/- 132 MHz) are the same.

Can someone help me?

Thanks in advance!
BL

There's nothing wrong with your laptop. The CPU automatically underclocks under light load conditions by lowering the multiplier. If the CPU ran at full speed all the time, it would use up the battery power much faster plus the CPU would run hotter. AMD uses "Cool 'n' Quiet" technology...Intel uses "SpeedStep".

If your laptop is running slow, it's most likely NOT because of Cool 'n' Quiet.

Thank you for your quick answer. But I'm sure my laptop is running more slowly. What could it be (I ran defrag, nothing seems wrong there)?

"What could it be"

Too many programs loading at startup, virus infection, spyware/malware infection, mass collection of internet garbage files, etc. Use CCleaner to clean up the mess.

Sorry Jam, I will be more specific.

The problem is that my laptop is very slow, even when I completely whipped the thing out and started from scratch (thus only having installed the two installation disks).

I will try CC-cleaner as you suggested, but I doubt if it will help though. Any extra suggestions?

Appreciate your efforts!

Bert, slow is a relative term. What are you comparing it to?

I related this to the situation 'a while ago' (yes, very vague, I know).

I will try to explain: my laptop became very slow over time, and I just did not understand why. Even just after a format c (new installation of virtually everything) my system was running slow. Opening IE for example took more than 30 seconds, and when I double clicked ‘My desktop’ or one of my two partitions, this would take sometimes almost over a minute, while it is virtually empty.

Then, I discovered that one of my two memory modules (internal RAM) was broken (so 256 instead of 512). I bought a new one (adding up to a total of 1280 (1024+256)), but even when I fixed this (and it helped, though), my system still takes a long time to run programs properly, et cetera.

Hopes this clarifies things more…

I appreciate your efforts!
