Comment:

Please help!! I think the CPU is overheating. I have AMD's original heatsink and fan on the xp2000+.

I get Blue screen after running 3 or more programs or when I try to play medal of honor while there is something else running in the background.
Here are my system specs:

AMD xp 2000
ecs k7s5a Pro
256mb DDR333 Ram
Ati radeon 9100
Norton internet security 2003
windows xp pro
PCI dsl modem
Sound card

The blue screen says:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THANOR_EQUAL

Physical Memory dump

etc etc.

Here is what I did.

Went into BIOS disabled, onboard LAN, SOUND, PARALLEL PORT, SERIAL PORT. After doing this the computer ran really well but after playing NFS:hot Pursuit 2 for 30 minutes the Blue screen came again, but wait this time it didn't have the DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS error line.

Don't know the exact numbers but it looked like this:

STOP 002030x
STOP 0030203x

Physical Memory Dump
Physical memory dump complete
------

Also there are lots of Warnings in my Event Viewer.
Here is the info from it:

The COM+ Event System failed to fire the ConnectionMade method on subscription {2A39415B-BEBA-4B25-8BD0-A8D39DE694A8}-{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}-{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}. The subscriber returned HRESULT 80004001.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
---------

Someone told me that there is an irq conflict remove the modem form the first slot, but the DSL modem is not in the first slot.
Here how it looks in the board.

AGP SLOT---->GRAPHICS CARD
PCI SLOT--EMPTY
PCI SLOT--EMPTY
PCI SLOT----> 3COM ADSL MODEM
PCI SLOT--EMPTY
PCI SLOT----> Sound Card

This many blue screens accompanied by zero screen freezes makes it look like software, not hardware.

Try tufftest as a self-bootable non-windows hardware test.

Possibly a transistor is busted on your mobo? or one of your sticks of ram is broken

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay I fixed it!!! I took out the sound card and dsl pci modem and put both in different pci slots. No more blue screens!. Its running smooth with lots of programs running at the back and am still able to play NFS hot Pursuit 2!

Actually its not working fine back to itself again!
I played games for an hour or more and then the blue screen!
I thought its fine.

I don't think it is the ram stick because its new retail.

I'll have to buy some other motherboard, I have spent too much time troubleshooting this piece of junk.

Have you updated that video card recently, or drivers for it? I had a similar problem with a GF2 MX 400 and certain detanator drivers. Now I tried different drivers it runs 100% stable with no BSOD's ever. Maybe you could try the same?

Yes I have installed new ATI drivers. Almost tried everything possible, but the darn blue screen doesn't go away.

I was playing IGI2 last night and BSOD came again.
I don't know if the CPU is overheating or the motherboard. I checked CPUs temp and it was 53 C after playing those games for an hour or so.
My power supply is 400w, so that's not causing it. Windows XP Pro is a clean install. RAM is brand new samsung 256ddr333.

Today I updated the BIOS, using the flash utility. Downloaded their new version from the ecs site.
Let's see if I get the BSOD today.

I have been trying fix these occasional BSODs for one week now!.

I think k7s5a Pro sucks so bad. I wish could ki** the guy's a** who made or designed this junk.

I have the SAME exact problem man, every thing about the blue screen, exact message and everything. I wish I could say Im glad to see that someone has the same problem, BUT, every forum ive been to EVERYONE HAS THIS PROBLEM with their AMD XPs and its ludacris. Here are my system specs.

Amd Athlon 2100XP+
256 PC2300
Radeon 9700
450 Watt PSU
Gigabyte Socket A Motherboard GA-7AXP
Windows 2000

Here is what ive tried in BIOS, and still failure

Loaded Optimized settings
Loaded Safe-Fail Settings
Top Performance

Ive tried kicken CPU voltage by +5% but that only makes it hotter. I too think its CPU overheating, Mine has gotten to 59C/138F as far as ive seen, but thats without running any programs, so it prob gets hotter whn i play CS. I opened up PC HEALTH and wrote down all my specs, just incase it may help.
(20 minutes after leaving computer on in BIOS)

Case Opened with Fan pointed on it
Vcore 1.756v
DDR VH 1.248v
+3.3v 3.360v
+5v 4.865v
+12v 12.480v
System Temp 41C
CPU Fan 4821RPM & 4687RPM
CPU Temp 59C/138F

I too have the original heatsink that came with it.If someone has any ideas, they are greatly apreciated. It seems like AMD XPs have been nothen but trouble to most pelpe ive talked to and its stupid. So please help us AMDrs out. Thanks

Methos, Formatting doesn't help. I used my Windows 2000 and got the same bluescreen. I'm pretty sure its the heat from the motherboard and the cpu.

SSIPROPHET, good to know that i'm not the only one with the blue screen.

I think the heat problem was the reason they have started making the Thoroughbred CPUs and to crank more ghz, they don't get hot because of the way they have built them on smaller chips and using some fancy technology.

I'm getting rid of k7s5a pro and the xp 2000, am gonna get a epox 8rda nforce 2 and amd thoroughbred.
This should fix the problem, I've done enough research.

Cheers

I think rather than spending all the money on a new board I'm gonna try something. I'll buy one of those volcano fans which run at 9000rpm. You should try that fan.
My cpu fan runs at 4900 rpm at the moment which isn't really helpful.

Ya, Im thinken about gettin a new heatsink too. That or the water cooling, but thats expensive, just more money to s--- out :(.
What sucks is that my MOBO is only AMD compatible, so i cant switch to a P4. So Im gonna have to try what your tryen. Keep me updated if you find any new news, or find somethin that helps. Ill do the same.
Sorry about the last post being so long. But so much stuff that i needed to say, and didnt know what information would/wouldnt be useful.

hey I was thinking of not buying another fan because I don't think it will help. In your case it will definitely not work. The only thing that we can afford is the Peltier Cooling System, works better than the water cooling at and is really cheap. It is like a refrigerator which cools the processor. Check this out, is on ebay for 20 bucks. I haven't bought it yet because it is a bit tricky to install and I need to get complete instructions and also the thermal paste.

I have a few other ideas...like getting a portable cooler the ones that are used in cars or minivans. I'll open the door and stick it close to my computer it should do the trick, reaches temperatures to 5 degree celsius.

I'll let you know what I did.
