Hi Guys :)

I postes a few days ago about my computer crashing after like 2-3 hours of playing a game/or downloading and i thought the problem was heat so i went out and bought i better heatsink (all copper spent about £25 on it)and a case fan (not right good cost about £6).
I installed these about 1 hour since then installed speed-fan so i could See what my temperatures where on my desktop, here's the results when just browsing the internet.

Temp 1 - 33C
Temp 2 - 40C
Temp 3 - 43C
HD0 - 33C

Here's a link so u can see what i see:

http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/3566/speedfan4sq.jpg

After playing a game

Temp 1 - 43C
Temp 2 - 60C
Temp 3 - 63C
HD0 - 36C

Fan Speeds are as follows:

System Fan: 2328RPM
CPU0 Fan: 2428RPM

Anyway ive never used speed-fan befor so i dont no what temp is the CPU'S but if anyone has used it befor could u tell me if these temperatures are good or bad.

If bad plz tell me what else might need looking at to bring the temperature down

Thx in advance

You might want to try artic silver compound. I heard that drops the heat quite a few. Also RAM Heatsink to keep the ram nice and cool and also if you want lower temperatures, put a water cooling device in your computer to cool it down a bit.

I'm not an intel guy, but is that a prescott core cpu? If it is, the idle and load temps are perfectly normal.

Don't take the "above" advise seriously, unless you like wasting your money.

1. Arctic silver makes little to no difference in temperatures. The application of the thermal compound, i.e. how it is applied, is the most important factor. An even, thin layer of compound is the proper way to apply thermal compound. The cheap white paste from radio shack is good enough.

2. RAM sinks don't do anything, I shouldn't have to give an explanation for that.

3. Water cooling is a waste of money. A good heatsink and fan will get you temps just as low.

Ok, on to your problem...

Firstly, your temps look fine at idle. The system temp, while loaded, is what worries me. 43C is a little high for a case temperature, this can definitely result in a higher cpu temperature. Work on getting that lower, this may reduce the overall temperature of the PC. Try taking the side panel off when you play games or anything cpu intensive. If your temps go down, you have a case ventilation problem. Also, you can place a small household fan next to the pc when the panel is off, have it blow into the case.

Of course, everything I said above applies only if the ambient room temperature is constant. It is approaching summer in the northern hemisphere, so room temp will go up. My room bakes in the summer, even with a/c. It's not uncommon for my cpu temp to be 10 degrees Celsius higher during the summer months. Keep this fact in mind, I know a lot of people who bought their pc's in the winter freak out when their temps go up suddenly after spring is over.

What kind of cpu fan is that? Judging from the rpm's listed, that seems a bit low.

Furthermore, Temp 2 or Temp 3 is your cpu temp. One of the 2 may be the PWM temperature. You can verify this by restarting your computer after looking at speed fan, then check your bios temps. The temps should not change much in this short amount of time. This always works for me.

Narrow down the problem, that's where every solution is found.

I should also add...

I'm not saying heat is the reason your pc is crashing, in fact, I don't think heat is causing your problem. Chances are, it's something else related to your system. An insufficient Power Supply, RAM settings, CPU settings, Bios Settings...you get the idea. Even windows can cause crashing, lol, did that sound right? Spware, adware, viruses...so many possibilites.

List your system specs, and make sure your pc is spyware and virus free.

Thx for the feed back guys. I acctually made a mistake when writing my problem, its not crashing its just randomly shutting down at unpredictable times. Usually after playing for a few hours or even just downloading.

Just to try and get a better view of the CPU temps and not relying on softwear i shut the computer down for 10mins took of the case sides then loaded it up and went into bios and the temperatures Read as follows:
CPU Temp = 52C
MoBo Temp = 37C
I ant smart when it comes to this sort of stuff but those temps dont look good and i dont understand why my temps are still high.
I was told by a freind the an advarage CPU temperature is about 30 - 40C (not sure if hes right) but even still why is mine so high even after buying a new stuff.

is your P4 3.2 prescott or northwood core this can be check by using CPU-Z and screen shot it and send link on here or check if the LEVEL 2 CACHE if its 512kb its NORTHWOOD which is cool running if its 1mb or 1024kb then its "HOT POTATO" PRESCOTT
good luck
