My bios doesn't appaer to be detecting the CPU on the motherbaord, when the system boots, it detects Main Processor as AMD Athlon(tm) 0MHz, where before it said 1.7Ghz. it then does what seems to be an extended memtest and eventually tries to boot, but whatever ide devices in whatever combination I attach I get DISK BOOT FAILURE.

I'm assuming the CPU has failed but how can I tell.

The M/B is like one of thesehttp://www.linden-computech.com/pc/bn790e.htm
but it's the BN790TM model which doesn't support jumerless clock setting, howvere I don't have a manual :(

Any ideas anyone?

If the CPU was bad I doubt you'd get it to boot at all. Have you changed anything recently? Did it work properly at one time? If so, what changes did you make that may have brought this on? Have you tried updating the BIOS?

heh, it's working again now.

No apart from dismantling for xmas day, (we had a lot of guests) I haven't touched it. I think I might have a cmos battery on it's way out, I cleared the cmos and then it rebooted fine, phew!
