hey there
i have a sempron 2800+ socket 754.
im just wondering if its worth upgrading to the athlon 64 3000+. will i notice a worth while improvement.

IT depends on what you use your system for?

S754 CPUs are really cheap right now, so it's hard to argue with an upgrade. You can get a S754 A64 3200+ Venice for $36 (shipped) from Newegg & with the right board, it will easily overclock to 2.75GHz (11 x 250MHz) or higher.

I found that when I changed from a sempron 2800 to an athlon 64 3200, I noticed quite a jump in performance. Like the above post, it depends on what you do with your computer. I done alot of music encoding and dvd transcoding, so i saw a large jump.

Bit of random information also, skt754 cpu's and motherboards are becoming rare on suppliers websites here in the uk. :D
