Installing a new chip on a MSI-6340 micro ATX mainboard requires just the setting of chip and then in BIOS adjusting the CPU bus frequency. How do i find out the CPU clock frequency and the Core/Bus ratio? By multiplying these i get the CPU core speed. According to the mainboard manual this is all i need to change.

thanks again and again.

read the manual and reread. downloading the Athlon manual.

CPU Clock

Core/Bus Ratio
--------------
CPU Core Speed

i take it the clock (according to manual) can be either 100/133. In the example above, Core/Bus Ratio is 7. Is the Core Speed the designation of CPU speed? i am installing an Athlon XP 2000+ (1.6).

thanks.

which manual?
Am pretty sure the Athlon manual wont say that.
Athlons come with their multiplier locked. So to run at their rated speed the core freq must be kept constant as well.
Most athlons run at 133MHz. Some cores of the 2600 run at 166MHz I guess, not sure.

You yourself have stated core X mul = CPU speed. Simple.
Keep the core at 133 MHz, there is no Athlon running at 100MHz now.

FYI there are three 2000+ types.

Athlon XP 2000+ - 1666MHz (133x12.5) - 256KB L2 (Palomino)
Athlon XP 2000+ - 1666MHz (133x12.5) -
256KB L2 (Thoroughbred)
Athlon XP 2000+ - 1666MHz (133x12.5) - 256KB L2 (Thorton)

Regardless of your core to run the 2000+ @ default clock speed your CPU Clock = 133mhz and Core/Bus Ratio = 12.5

thank you very much, Sabertooth and Kailas.

gone through the CMOS and BIOS features, and i can't seem to find them.

thanks.
