Comment:

Can anyone please advise me how I identify if my xp3200 (fsb 400) is a Barton?
I ahve chnaged motherboards from Gigabyte Ga-7N400 Pro 2 to Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro. The CPU worked perfect on the Pro 2 but when booting up the BIOS recognises it as XP3200 but I keep getting an error saying :- PXE-E61:Media test failure , check cable

Tried resetting BIOS etc etc but still cannot get past that PXE-E61:Media test failure , check cable

If I change CPU to sempron 2400 it boots up with no problem

I have checked the Gigabyte website that says a AthlonXP 3200+(Barton,.13u) is OK on that motherboard

On the CPU it says the following:-
AXDA3200 DKV4E Y854326231177
AQZDA 0325XPFW

Any advise/assistance would be greatly appreciated

TIA

There's nothing to check...your XP3200+ IS a Barton. That was the ONLY core used!

The error has nothing to do with the CPU. Check the cables like the message says. You apparently have something connected incorrectly...either the floppy, HDD, or optical drive.

Checked all that, even disconnected them but alas it will still show PXE-E61:Media test failure , check cable the DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK. I have switched between the XP3200 and Sempron 2400 (resetting BIOS to default and fail safe)all with the same result.........works perfect with the Sempron but fails with the XP3200 :-(

I would say the problem lies in your BIOS settings then. Default or Fail-Safe settings are never 100% correct. You should "custom configure" your BIOS settings to match your hardware.

Make sure GigaBit LAN Boot Rom & On-Chip LAN Boot Rom are both disabled.

Yes I have done numerous changes still no joy. It is just strange how the Sempron 2400 works Ok, but not the XP3200
I have contact Gigabyte; maybe they can shine some light on this

Thanks anyway
