OS: Windows XP Pro SP2
CPU/Ram: 2.2GHZ Athlon XP 3200+ 2G
Product: ECS N2U400-A

Hello im new to the site and had a couple problems to solve if someone could help me figure out. I recently bought a new cpu, upgraded from a Athlon xp 2800+ to a Athlon xp 3200+ (Both socket 462) and upraded my graphics card from a nVidia GeForceFX 5200 256mb to a 512MB Radeon x1600 PRO Monster. (Both AGP, by the way my motherboard is an ECS N2U400-A)This is where i began to run into problems. first, since my system is mainly used for gaming, about 5 minutes into a game, the system would either restart, freeze, or give me a BSoD. on the blue screen it would say 'DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL' whatever that means.. is here any way i can fix this little annoyance? another thing is i am not able to fully implement my CPU power. instead of the 200MHX FSB, i can only use 166mhz to get the system to boot up. any help would be appreciated!

First download the latest drivers for not only the video card but also the motherboard, and it also could be your power supply not giving you enough voltage, what specs are your p/s?

The 2800+ to 3200+ upgrade probably wasn't worthwhile, unless you got the 3200+ REALLY cheap! You should also be running PC3200 RAM to go with your 400FSB CPU.

Since you went from an nVidia card to an ATI card, you should have made absolutely sure that all traces of the nVidia graphics driver was removed. That means using Control Panel > Add or Remove, & then running "drivercleaner" to clear out any remaining traces.

In the BIOS, the AGP Aperture setting should be 128MB, FastWrites should be disabled, Spread Spectrum should be disabled as well. And if you haven't already done it, your motherboard chipset drivers (nForce2) should be updated to version 5.10

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_5.10.html

You should be using the ATI Catalyst driver version 6.5 & you need Microsoft.NET installed BEFORE you install the ATI drivers:

Your 300W PSU *may* be OK, provided it's a good brand name unit with a healthy amount of amperage on the +12v rail (at least 16A if it has a single +12v). And make sure the 4-pin square plug is connected to the board.

yup did all of that. except the twaking of the bios. im gonna go do that. The PSU is a HiPro, says very cool and weighs alot (from what i heard the heavier the more reliable)
and the PSU
does have a 16A on the 12v rail. i got the 3200+ or cheaper than i got the 2800+. i just like the fact that it had a 512k L2 cache =)
the ram i got says its DDR 400 (PC3200)how would i go about getting it on the 400mhz side?it just seems to want to stay at 200mhz

but other than that, BIOS Mobo drivers, vido drivers and everything else it a go.

PC3200 RAM runs at 200MHz...it's "effective" speed is 400MHz, just like the CPU

ah i see. well the highest FSB setting ins the BIOS is 233, and with that the system won;t even boot. i don't understand why, could it be the lack of power or just because its unsupoorted?

Your 3200+ is designed to run at 2.2GHz (11 x 200MHz)...if you bump up the FSB to 233MHz, the speed would jump to 2.56GHz. You're not gonna pull that off without increasing the CPU voltage (vcore) & having a decent cooling setup. I highly doubt your PC3200 would be able to handle 233MHz either, not without relaxing the memory timings & increasing the RAM voltage (vdimm)...& even then, it's not very likely. I think you're expecting way too much. Besides, you said you can't even get it to run at the stock FSB speed of 200MHz...why would you even be considering trying to go higher?
