I know this may be the most played out question on the internet right now, however I've known this forum to be the best place for trustworthy answers... So will my motherboard support the Intel Core 2 Duo

Gigabyte GA-G1975X

I've checked their website and it doesn't list support. Of course it didn't list support for the Pentium D 820 when I installed it either. Its based on the Intel 975 chipset... I would expect it to be compatible, but I need to know before buying the Intel E6700.

yeah, I beleive it will. I built my video-editing friend a intel based rig with an D975XBX board. As i was setting parameters in the bios I saw a setting that only applies to the 965 Presler EE, and Core Duo cpu's, the 1066FSB option. So I would assume that all you need is a bios update from Gigabyte, but dont quote me on that. Chances are good though.

You would think it would work but if it's not the revision then it won't. The support for 1066FSB doesn't really come into play. the main reason why you won't be able to upgrade will be because of the Voltage Regulation Module.

Conroe processors will feature a new type of Voltage Regulation Module onboard. In other words, one 975X chipset may have different VRM then the other depending on the mainboard revision.

If yours isn't doesn't look compatible for the core 2 Duo. The Intel 975XBX and 975XBX2 are fully compatible with the Core 2 Duo, because they both support the new Voltage Regulation Module standard, the 975X doesn't.

All you had to do was go to the Gigabyte website & check the CPU Support List.

Intel / E6700(2.66GHz,4MB) / 1066 / N/A**

** N/A = "Not support"

And that is true with all 975X boards. 975XBX and 975XBX2 boards are support. So in other word the best you can do is a Pentium D 965 EE.

If you tried putting a Core 2 duo in your board, you will prob hear your fans spinning but that is as about as far as you are going to get.

Thanks for you guys help. That was a close one! Its unfortunate that such a new chipset from Intel wouldn't support the newest processor. But I see the obvious reason why now!

Thanks again,

Trey
