I want to know how to cool my cpu below freezing. Its a 939 amd64 3500+. I know this can be done. There is this one heatsink that I saw for 500 something bucks that can cool it down to 40 degrees below celcuis. but thats way to much money.

No matter what you do, bringing your CPU temperature to below freezing is going to cost a substantial amount of money. There is no "cheap way" to do it.

Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example.

There are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand binary, and those that don't.

and the point of this would be? for 500 dollars you can get a Athlon x2 4800+ and get a decent cooler with the left over money you get from selling your Athlon 64 3500+

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ OC 2.7ghz
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 7800GT
SATA II 2x 200gig 7200rpm 16mb cache RAID-0
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

I don't really want a x2 because half my games won't recognize two prcessors anyway.

If I do get a x2 it has to be atleast 2 ghz per core, and my motherbiard can't even handle that at moment. So i'm going to wait 6 to 12 monthes till better components come out before upgrade.

Any Socket 939 motherboard will handle dual core with a BIOS upgrade, and a dual core cpu is definitely a smarter purchase than a phase-change cooler.

I didn't say my board couldn't take a dual-core, I said that they didn't make a dual-core that was fast enough to meet my standards, and even if they did my board can't handle anything beyond 3 Ghz. I want each core to be atleast 2 Ghz, which together would be a 4 Ghz dual-core.

Am I missing something here? Even the slowest of the X2s--the 3800--runs at 2.0GHz per core.

Dude, your whole idea is a "pipe dream".

You obviously don't know much about the A64...if you did, you never would have gone for the 3500+. And why would you spend $500 to supercool (& I assume overclock) a Venice core CPU when there are so many better ones out there? I'm not a dual core fan myself, but what Cobra_R wrote in response #4 makes a lot more sense than what you're proposing.

"I said that they didn't make a dual-core that was fast enough to meet my standards....I want each core to be atleast 2 Ghz, which together would be a 4 Ghz dual-core."

Huh? YOUR standards? LOL!

The "lowly" X2 3800+ already meets "your standards". Each core runs at 2.0GHz. The CPU doesn't run at 4.0GHz, it runs at 2.0GHz x 2...there's a difference.

"...and even if they did my board can't handle anything beyond 3 Ghz"

That's not a problem because there are no S939 CPUs that officially run at 3.0GHz...2.8GHz is as high as it gets for single core (Opteron 154 or FX57)...2.4GHz is as fast as it gets for dual core (X2 4800+). And that's 2.4GHz x 2, not 4.8GHz...lol

Furthermore, ghz isn't everything. It used to mean alot of say 4 or 5 years ago when cpu's weren't as advanced as they are today, but AMD has proven many times over that the more ghz doesn't mean the faster the better. An intel P4 630 Prescott core @ 3ghz will lose an Athlon 64 Venice core 3200+ @ 2ghz in nearly 3/4 of the benchmarks.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ OC 2.7ghz
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 7800GT
SATA II 2x 200gig 7200rpm 16mb cache RAID-0
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

I hope that's a typo cobra_r

"intel P4 630 Prescott core @ 3ghz will lose an Athlon 64 Venice core 3200+ @ 2ghz in nearly 3/4 of the benchmarks."

The way you worded that makes it sound like the prescott "will lose" (i.e. smash the athlon in 3/4 of benchmarks.) LOL...

I know you meant to say: the prescott will "lose to" the athlon in 3/4 of the benchmarks.

Sorry if I sound like a jerk pointing that out, honestly, I don't mean to.

Anyway, does Bob know how to overclock, or is he just an amateur trying to play with the big boys?

Sorry I thought it was 2.w ghz overall, I researched last night ur right, and i'm not a noob at overclocking juts to dual cores.

Plus when i'm doen cooli ng this thing down to 40 below zero it will overclock atleast a Ghz. According to many sites.

You have a Gigabyte board, right? They aren't the best overclockers. I speak from experience. Cooling isn't everything; you gotta have a good PSU, RAM, and overclock-minded mobo.

Hey, just to let you know my old gigabyte board with a amd64 3000+ 2Ghz 754, I overclocked that to 3Ghz without a glitch. But I accidently broke a pin off and it doesn't work anymore.

Ok, so if gigabyte isn't the best to overclock, which company is. Plus when I buy my new board it is going to be a AM2 board.

DFI makes very solid O/Cing boards. Lots of options. My ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe has also treated me pretty darn well in that department, but some people don't like ASUS. I'm actually having some trouble with the fans on it right now.
