Subject: Constantly restarting – AMD&ASUS
Comment:

I had and have some problems with a heating, I can live with that, but constantly restarting is not a case. The system is normal with normal applications, but playing games is terrible. Sometimes immediately, sometimes after few minutes, the system just restarts. Or when I’m lucky, shout down the game and get back to windows. The heating should not be a problem now, as I find out that system worked on 75 C, as well on 55 C now, so the idea is power, as I read here around. And maybe motherboard. Or what else.
Here are the details: Power 300W, ASUS A7V333, AMD XP 1800+, 2x256mb DDR333 no-name, lots of cards (maybe it’s a problem) MSI GeForce 4 MX 440T, Sound Blaster Live, TV card Pinnacle, Modem, Network card, CD, CDRW, HDD IBM 8oGB.
Motherboard is strange as I read here, processor too, power not strong enough, I do not know, so if anybody got some idea, thanks.

I am also having same problem with same cpu and many people write here that 300 W is not enough power. But one of my friends told me that 300 W is more than enough and this restarting problem is not due to power. There must be some kind of setting problems. I have change some of my bios setting. Press del button when windows is starting. There is power management option. Check those and read your manual of motherboard. It should tell about bios options. I hope you will find some. I have changed some settings but i don't know that they will work or no. I am still find solution. If you find something, please let me know.

No, you can't live with heat problems...the prob you describe are heat related! Could be your case is too small...too many cards & cables restricting airflow? How many case fans? One in front pulling in fresh air & one in back pulling out warm air? Quality HSF with thermal paste? Quaility PSU? Does PSU exhaust out the rear or back into case? With all those cards, maybe you need more wattage? Try taking a few things out temporarily & see what happens.........

I also have an AMD and an Asus and had the same exact problem you have.
I first tried blowing a house fan on it and it cured the reboot problem and the overheating problem.Playing it safe(since my case only has 1 fan),I picked up 3 more along with a new power supply(300W I had,I figured a new one was in order).Problem no longer occurs.Try a house fan or buy some more fans(they aren't expensive).Also,2 different brands of RAM can cause a reboot too.

Emilio, The most likely cause is your generic RAM. This is due to lower Quality Control. Sometimes running a burnin test can cure it. I had this problem with generic RAM.

I had the same problem, and solution as Charles.

Got rid of my generic RAM and now everything always runs smooth.

Funny though, I had that RAM in my computer for about 8 months before all the problems started happening.

Just something to look into I guess.

Thanks for advice about RAM, I'll try that.
