Hi guys,

Just upgraded my old but still good computer with a new graphics card (GeForce 6800GT) and I switched it on and loaded it up with the latest drivers and test drove some games and it was working brilliantly. So I shut it down to put the side back on, cleaned the CPU fan while it was open, stand it upright and switch it back on. Now all i get is 2 seconds of power and then it switches itself off - literally on for 2 seconds and then it seems to cut itself off - and wont switch on again unless I switch power switch off and on again and then does the same thing again.

I can't think of why it would be doing this? Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Josh

Is the 4 pin power connector for the processor unplugged.

Nope its plugged in, everything is how it should be which is what makes it so confusing. The only weird thing is that if I take the CPU out, the system will switch on (obviously doesnt do anything) but the power stays on without switching off - does this mean it is the CPU? Could it be broken? As soon as I put it back in the system won't start again.... or could it be the PSU?

Could be the thermal safety device tripping on startup and shutting the machine down, a poorly mounted heatsink can cause this exact problem. This also includes the quantity, age and application of the thermal grease or pad.

I use a Mac, still want to take my advice... LOL
