I build a computer from scratch for my nephew and it wont start.
System:
ASUS TUA266 ALI ALLADIN PRO 5T DDR
Celleron 800 MHZ
192 MB RAM
DVD-ROM
AGP CARD
Floppy
20 GIG hard Drive *to be installed*My problem is that I installed everything and start up the computer last week and everything was working fine, it was starting to install drivers and all and it became idel, so I shut off the computer to lock it up because everything was working fine. When I locked it up and put the case on, I turned on the computer and it was making a loud beep sound. I then turned off the computer.. I opened up the computer again and turn it on and it still beeped, like an ambulance. I first check the memory to see if it was installed corrently and it was.. that was then and it's been a week since.
When I turn on the computer all that happens is the fan on the cpu spins, apparenly the motherboard has power but it doesn't beep or anything to say that the computer is operationg.
Does anyone know what the problem could be. Did I destroy the motherboard or the CPU? I know for a fact the CPU was working because it was installing the drivers.. I could be the montherboard, but I need help..

Hi.
a friend of mine had the same. Hope is the same sound. It`s like a police/ ambulance.
Thats a virus. Ok mine was a virus.. I don`t know what yours is cause I didn`t hear the sound. But I think it may be too.

Since this is a new build and you were still in the process of installing drivers the virus scenario is highly unlikely. If the CPU fan is spinning and you are getting the beeping you are describing, then one of two things comes to mind. Check the power connectors to all hardware. If one is loose then the MB will detect the incomplete circuit and see it as a problem. If the wrong ATX power supply is being used (their are 7 designes all with different pinouts for the power connector to the MB) then it may have run the system for a time but then the MB gave out. I would first remove everything except video, RAM and floppy. Ensure all connections are correct. If this boots ok the put each piece of hardware in one by one and check the boot status at each point. If an expansion card is loose this could also cause this kind of behavior so check that all cards are seated firmly as well and that the RAM is completly inserted too. Good luck. If it is power related it can be tedious to diagnose which is why I recommend eliminating the variables with the above 'bare bones' configuration first.

Apparently I think I found out what the problem is... It's my AGP Card. If I touch the card, the computer I think gave a signal to the hard disk to start up. I was able to install Win 2000, however, I'm having the same problem. I tested the card on my Athlon and it works perfectly. I can safely rule out the CPU as it's working.
The problem seems to be with the AGP Video card slot. I've tested three good cards and they work perfectly on my other computer but not on this one. Right now I think I may have to buy a PCI video card..
