Subject: computer wont power on...need HELP Bad!
Comment:

i have just built a brand new computer: case w/ 300w powersupply, abit kg7mobo, amd athlon 1.4, 512ddr, radeon ve 32mb video. these are the only things currently installed in my system at this point. when i power the machine on the fans (case, powersupply, chipset, cpu) all turn on for a split second, then nothing. the computer just sits there dead. i have tried a different video card, different powercord, different outlet, measured the voltage from the power supply...anyone ever encountered this? have suggestions? know any fixes? please help. you can email me, or post a reply.

thanx in advance, scott

do you hear a beep? if you don't it is probably a bad motherboard. If you see stuff come on your screen then it is something elce and explain more fully.

I checked Abit's web page for that board, not a lot of info. But double check that you have your CPU's HSF connected to the FAN1, some of these boards wont boot up unless you do.

Scott:

To reset BIOS to default, you can remove the MOBO battery for a few minutes and then replace it. Or, on some MOBOs, there is a jumper that you can close then open again.

Make sure your processor is seated properly. I had similar problem and processor was not seated properly..the angles did not match up.

Check how the RAM is seated. I don't know about the newer mobos, but the older ones do show the video and count memory without the cpu. They make a noise (the annoying PC speaker) and do nothing without memory.

your motherboard is short circuit, u prolly didnt put the feet for the motherboard and its touching the case so when u first power it on it was short circuit already,

Joshua:

I've had no beep with bad CPU, bad MOBO, bad PSU, bad RAM, bad BIOS. "No Beep" is very nonspecific.

Heck, I haven't really found beep codes to be very helpful!

Just for the record, is your pc speaker hooked up? I never hook the stupid thing up, it's so annoying. If your speaker isn't hooked up, there won't be a beep. Good Luck.

Greg

Greg, even though my pc speaker isn't hooked up, my mobo has its own little speaker. Took me a while to realize why i kept hearing this tiny beep sometimes
